AgriMarine is involved in numerous projects, rearing a variety of fish species in our solid-wall containment systems.
AgriMarine’s strategy is to demonstrate that its proprietary technology has the ability to raise healthy fish economically and the flexibility to operate in diverse aquatic environments around the world.
Canada
The Company is focused on the rearing and production of Pacific Salmon – Chinook (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) – at its demonstration facility at Middle Bay, BC. There is limited domestic production of indigenous Pacific species despite diminished local wild fishery levels. AgriMarine’s facility, once fully developed, will be capable of supplying fresh fish, year round.
China
The hatchery and farm site at Benxi are stocked with Coho, Chinook and Steelhead Trout. Aside from AgriMarine, there is no commercial domestic production of salmon in China due to a lack of suitable locations and negative environmental variables where traditional net cage farms simply cannot operate. Through the use of solid-wall containment, solid waste capture and augmented life support systems, these challenges have been overcome. The Company intends to further capitalize on this significant market opportunity through the construction of additional tanks and site selection for future farm operations.
In the island city of Zhoushan, located in the Zhejiang Province, AgriMarine has initiated a joint research project with Zhoushan Fisheries Research Institute to study the rearing of Yellow Croaker (Larimichthys crocea), a warm-temperate to subtropical fish, in solid-wall containment. Yellow Croaker is one of the more highly valued fish in China, due to both its scarcity and its flavour. Yellow Croaker is currently reared in near-shore net cages in southern China (primarily Fujian Province); however, poor water quality from local industrial pollution and disease outbreaks have contributed to generally poor flesh quality and low yields.
